The Big Bertha line is really making a comeback with a new name. Diablo. In my last review I went over the Callaway Golf Big Bertha Diablo Driver with some very, very good results. Now it's on to the fairway woods!

The Callaway Golf Big Bertha Diablo fairway wood feature the Edge Technology like the Drivers. This new technology makes for a higher Moment of Inertia for greater accuracy via a very stable club head. As in the driver review, this is a bit of an odd almost square look, but it is easy to get over.

The Big Bertha Diablo Wood from Callaway is crafted from 100% stainless steel to deliver explosive power from the club face. Using Edge Technology the Callaway engineers have placed weight strategically around the clubface to optimise the Centre of Gravity positon meaning the the Big Bertha Diablo is available in both draw and neutral set-ups to complement your game.

Utilising VTF Technology the varying level of face thickness in the Diablo Fairway Woods result in higher ball speeds from a larger area of the face for that all important distance. The Diablo delivers this unparalleled length without sacrificing accuracy thanks to Callaways discretionary weighting that moves weight from the hosel to the perimeter of the club to maximise impact stabilty.

The Big Bertha brand name evokes two characteristics: distance and forgiveness. The Callaway Big Bertha Diablo fairway wood takes that reputation and extends it beyond drivers into a series of woods with the forgiveness to please the most demanding of golfers. This stainless steel clubhead is a powerful design that gives the Callaway Big Bertha Diablo fairway wood explosive distance. Its unique shaping allows the weight to be redistributed in a way that ensures the best possible center of gravity, as well as encouraging a closed clubface at impact and greater stability. That inspires more power, and greater distance.

The Callaway Big Bertha Diablo fairway wood has both draw and neutral head shapes, which allows golfers to pick the club that best suits their game. A golfer with a slicing problem should pick the draw model, while those more interested in shaping their shots would be better off with the neutral weighting.A VFT Face is used in the fairway woods and is the perfect design for higher balls speeds with the fairway woods. It gives a large portion of the face what I call a "Hot Spot" and makes these fairway woods very, very long! In fact, this is the longest fairway wood I have ever hit!

In my opinion,I feel these are more along the lines of the last version of Big Bertha Fairway Woods in that they were very hard to get airborne. Don't get me wrong, it is a very good club, but the size of this club is not what most armatures would call confidence inspiring when set down behind a ball. When you put a good swing on them, thy do hit the ball a ton don't get me wrong, but for the average player who is only on the course once a month, this will not be an easy thing to do.

If you are a solid fairway wood player looking for more distance and accuracy, or a golfer looking for a 3-wood to hit off the tee instead of a driver, then the Callaway Big Bertha Diablo Fairway Wood is for you. I would look elsewhere however if your fairway wood game is marginal as I feel it will be to difficult to get the ball in the air, as well as the mental block of setting something that is large as a driver from just a few years back!
